What Happens If a Bearing Fails Completely
A neglected bearing builds heat, develops play, and lets the wheel wobble. In the worst case the wheel can lock up or separate from the hub. Replacing it while it is still just noisy avoids all of that.

How long can I drive on a noisy wheel bearing? It varies. A bearing that is already loud can last a few more months or fail within days, and there is no reliable way to predict which. Because a complete failure can be dangerous, we recommend replacing it promptly.
Why did my ABS light come on with a bad bearing? On many vehicles the ABS wheel-speed sensor is built into the hub assembly. When the bearing develops play it disturbs that sensor’s signal and triggers the ABS light.
